Secretary Sebelius should be fired for the Healthcare.gov train wreck

kathleen-sebeliusHere’s a good quote from the Washington Post’s Ezra Klein:

“If Apple launched a major new product that functioned as badly as ObamaCare’s online insurance marketplace, the tech world would be calling for [CEO] Tim Cook’s head.”

Here’s an equally good quote from former Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs:

“I hope they fire some people that were in charge of making sure [the Obamacare online insurance marketplace] was supposed to work.”

What do both of these quotes have in common, aside from the fact that they both came from the mouths of liberals? They both agree that someone needs to be held accountable for the train wreck that is Healthcare.gov.

That someone is HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Time and time again, Sebelius has turned a blind eye toward this mess that she herself helped to create. She calls the website’s problems “glitches.” Problems on this grand a scale are not “glitches”—they are a systemic failure. Even worse, they could have prevented it all from happening:

HHS had over three years to build the system, and the launch date still caught them entirely off guard—though not for a lack of warning signs.

The New York Times — yes, the liberal New York Times — documented the many red flags.

ObamaCare’s “chief digital architect” worried the site would be a “third-world experience.” The firm contracted to build the site didn’t start writing code until this past spring. “As late as the last week of September, officials were still changing features of the Web site,” reports the Times. Back in February one insurance executive said he foresaw “a train wreck.” He was right.

The American people should be absolutely enraged that the government spent over $500 million in taxpayer money to build a site that doesn’t even work. And the website isn’t even the half of it:

The law continues to wreck the economy and endanger the healthcare of Americans. More and more families who already have insurance are now receiving the kind of letters that many Americans dread. They’re being dropped from their current plan.

Obama lied about being able to keep your health care. Sebelius allowed a train wreck of a website to be built. Everyone responsible needs to answer for these atrocities, and Sebelius is the first one on the list.
