Progressives have their panties all in a bunch that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is hosting Saturday Night Live on Nov. 7. Hillary Clinton, for one, will watch the broadcast, simply because she thinks Trump watched her when she was on the show. Many other liberals, however, won’t tune in, including Colombian-born actor John Leguizamo, who called Trump’s hosting gig “hurtful”:
“I’m all for freedom of speech, but this is different,” Leguizamo said. “He’s not doing it politically … This is celebrating somebody who, if he’d said those things about any other ethnic group, he would not be on SNL.”
Leguizamo added that had Trump appeared on a political program to answer legitimate questions about his platform, the situation would be different.
“I find SNL to do that and NBC, I find it really insulting,” he said. “[It’s] hurtful and insulting to celebrate someone who said horrible things.”
Leguizamo joined Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) in using the hashtag #RacismIsntFunny in hopes of encouraging NBC to cancel Trump’s appearance. However, as NBC isn’t moved by Twitter activism, the network is moving forward with the show.
