You’ve probably never heard of Joy Villa, but the 25-year-old musician made quite the splash at the Grammy Awards Sunday night when she literally unveiled a sparkly pro-Donald Trump dress on the red carpet:
Sometimes you just gotta be free to express yourself. 😍✨🎶 thank you to all of my supporters and fellow believers. Life is about living free and loving it. Be your beautiful selves tonight! 😘💋🎶😍💕 dr as by @officialandresoriano makeup by @nicholerayartistry Publicist: @mwprinc #grammys2017 #love #happygrammysday #joyvillagrammys #joyvilla
Angry liberals immediately accused Villa of only wearing the dress for publicity. For what it’s worth, digital sales of her EP, “I Made the Static,” did surge after her red carpet appearance.
However, Villa says that she is absolutely a Trump supporter:
“I am 100 percent a Trump supporter. I believe in his message, I believe he will run this country like he runs his life, successfully,” Villa told Fox News. “I stand as a proud American and I stand for a unified America that is tolerant of each other no matter who we voted for. I stand behind our President because that’s the American thing to do. I believe in love, above all.”
Even better, the dress designer, Andre Soriano, is a gay immigrant from the Philippines. Soriano said that he was inspired to make the dress after witnessing liberal hostility toward Trump voters:
“It’s more so about love,” he said. “We all live on this planet. I’ve never been in the political arena. However, it’s just so crazy that people are getting beat up because they voted for Trump, or this and that, someone wants to bomb the White House. I am an American, I moved here from the Philippines, and I highly believed in the trueness of what this country can bring. It’s about bringing people together, that’s the message.”
That “someone” who wanted to bomb the White House, by the way, was Madonna. Notably, she was not present at the Grammys.
