Former Sen. Jim DeMint, president of the conservative Heritage Foundation, took the stage at CPAC 2017 to remind conservatives that they must not squander the opportunity that was afforded them by winning the White House in November.
“Washington is extremely good at lowering expectations,” DeMint cautioned. “Now the real fight begins” against leftists and the “guardians of the swamp” who are already attempting to get conservative politicians to go back on their campaign promises.
Those promises include building a wall, enforcing existing immigration law, repealing and replacing Obamacare, balancing the budget, and protecting religious freedom by cutting taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood.
Members of the establishment believe those promises are impossible to keep. “But we found out in America that nothing is impossible,” DeMint said.
“Our job as conservatives […] is to make possible what the establishment says is impossible.”
