There’s an old saying, generally attributed to Mark Twain, that seems somehow appropriate here:
“Be thankful we’re not getting all the government we pay for.”
But this has gotten ridiculous….

Make this clear to me. No government agency is using even 50% of their assigned office space.

And yet we’re spending huge amounts of money on nonsense.
In 2023, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) spent:
-$759 Million on Workforce Diversity and Outreach
-$611,203 “Evaluating Microaggressions among Latinx Individuals with Obesity”
-$87,944 on the “Role of the estrous cycle and nucleus accumbens signaling on incubation of…— Department of Government Efficiency (@DOGE) December 5, 2024
Next time there’s a government “shutdown” or a DC snow day, ponder on the phrase they use: essential workers.
If mostly they aren’t showing up to work, are any of them — outside the military and maybe border patrol — really essential?
I don’t think so.
