Who is Steve Miller and why does the Left hate him so?

Stephen Miller serves as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor in Donald Trump’s second administration.

He was born on August 23, 1985, in Santa Monica, California, to a Jewish family. His parents, Michael D. Miller, a real estate investor, and Miriam (née Glosser), raised him as the second of three children. His maternal ancestors emigrated from what is now Belarus in the early 20th century, fleeing anti-Jewish pogroms.

Miller grew up in a liberal household but shifted toward conservative views during his teenage years, a change he attributes to reading Guns, Crime, and Freedom by Wayne LaPierre of the NRA. At Santa Monica High School, he began voicing conservative opinions, criticizing what he saw as liberal biases in education after the September 11 attacks.

Miller attended Duke University, graduating in 2007 with a degree in political science. There, he was active in conservative circles, serving as president of the Duke chapter of David Horowitz’s Students for Academic Freedom and writing provocative columns for The Duke Chronicle.

After college, he entered Republican politics, working as a press secretary for Representatives Michele Bachmann and John Shadegg. In 2009, he joined Senator Jeff Sessions’ staff as communications director, where he honed his focus on anti-immigration policies, aligning with Sessions’ hardline stance.

Miller’s career took a significant turn when he joined Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign as a senior policy advisor. He wrote Trump’s 2016 Republican National Convention speech and became a key figure in shaping the campaign’s “America First” messaging.

After Trump’s election, Miller served as Senior Advisor for Policy (2017–2021), co-authoring the inaugural address with Steve Bannon and driving immigration policies like the 2017 travel ban on several Muslim-majority countries and the family separation policy at the U.S.-Mexico border. These actions cemented his reputation as a staunch immigration hardliner.

Following Trump’s first term, Miller founded America First Legal in 2021, a conservative group challenging Biden administration policies on issues like immigration and civil rights. During Trump’s 2024 campaign, Miller remained a close advisor, often speaking at rallies, including a notable appearance at Madison Square Garden where he declared, “America is for Americans and Americans only.”

On November 13, 2024, Trump announced Miller’s appointment as Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor for his second term, roles not requiring Senate confirmation. Since taking office on January 20, 2025, Miller has been instrumental in pushing Trump’s aggressive immigration agenda, including mass deportation plans, and has collaborated with figures like Elon Musk on government restructuring efforts.

Miller’s influence stems from his long tenure with Trump, his ideological alignment with the “America First” ethos, and his ability to translate Trump’s rhetoric into policy. His background reflects a trajectory from a contrarian student to a powerful political operative, consistently focused on restrictive immigration and nationalist priorities.

That’s who he is.  But why does the Left hate him?

If you’re old enough, you remember Schoolhouse Rock.

But I don’t think the ‘white House Press corps ever actually saw this.

So Miller schooled them — with extreme prejudice.

This is not Joe Biden’s White House.
