Democrats Refuse to Kick the Socialists Out

And Fetterman Is the Only One Willing to Say It Out Loud

The Democratic Party is being hollowed out from the left, and most of its leaders are too cowardly or too calculating to stop it. Senator John Fetterman has had enough. He calls the rise of the Democratic Socialists an “orgy of socialism” and says the party must police its own ranks. The rest of the leadership, including the head of the House Democratic campaign arm, treats the socialists as just another faction in a big tent. That refusal to draw a line is how a mainstream party becomes a vehicle for people who want to abolish the Senate, the borders, the police, and the military.

The DCCC Chair’s Open Door

The chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee was asked directly whether Democratic Socialists are welcome in the party. The answer was yes. The party is a big tent. Voters are choosing these candidates. They will join the caucus. The job is to win the majority and the gavels. That is the official posture: electability first, ideology second, and no meaningful standards for what counts as a Democrat.

This is not neutrality. It is surrender. When primary voters in deep-blue districts elevate candidates who openly embrace the socialist platform, the campaign arm shrugs and prepares to seat them. The message to moderates and working-class voters is clear: the party will not defend its own boundaries.

Fetterman’s Lonely Stand

Fetterman has watched the same primaries and reached the opposite conclusion. He has described the socialist wing as a dirtbag left that is anti-American and anti-Western. He points to the platform language about ending borders, abolishing prisons, and dismantling core institutions. He demands that Democrats call it out instead of pretending it is normal. Most of his colleagues refuse. They calculate that confronting the activists costs more in energy and primary challenges than it gains in general-election credibility.

Fetterman is right about the stakes. A party that cannot say no to people who reject the constitutional order and national sovereignty will eventually own those positions in the eyes of the public. The refusal to disavow is itself a choice.

The Broader Pattern of Accommodation

Other Democratic leaders follow the same script. They celebrate primary victories by socialist-backed candidates as proof of energy and diversity. They avoid direct confrontation with the most extreme planks. They treat the socialist organization as a junior partner rather than a hostile takeover attempt. When the socialist platform calls for abolishing the Senate, subordinating the executive and judiciary, open borders, and public ownership of major industries, the response from party leadership is silence or deflection.

This is not new. The pattern has repeated for years: radicals set the terms in primaries, institutional Democrats absorb them for the sake of unity, and the party’s brand shifts further left. The difference now is scale. Recent primary wins have put more socialist-aligned figures on a path to Congress. The leadership’s refusal to draw a line accelerates the shift.

What This Means

A political party that will not police its extremes eventually becomes defined by them. Fetterman understands the electoral danger. Most of his colleagues prefer short-term seat counts over long-term viability. The head of the campaign committee has chosen the latter path. Socialists are welcome. The tent is big enough for people who want to tear down the structure that holds the tent up. That is the current Democratic position. Voters will decide whether it is sustainable. The early evidence says it is not.
