The U.S. national emergency ended yesterday as President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan congressional resolution to bring it to a close after three years.
This is earlier than expected as his notice on February 10, 2023 said “…the national emergency declared on March 13, 2020, and beginning March 1, 2020, must continue in effect beyond March 1, 2023. Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing the national emergency declared in Proclamation 9994 concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. I anticipate terminating the national emergency concerning the COVID-19 pandemic on May 11, 2023.”
However, the US is way behind on allowing non-jabbed visitors. Here’s the CDC: If you are a non-U.S. citizen who is a nonimmigrant (not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or traveling to the United States on an immigrant visa), you will need to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before you travel by air to the United States from a foreign country.
This is adversely affecting business and leisure travel to the States where we could do with every last tourist dollar right now. It is especially hard on separated families who took the decision not to take the vaccine and have not seen each other in years.
