President Trump is laser-focused on keeping America dominant in artificial intelligence, but China isn’t fighting fair. While Beijing pours billions into its own data centers and AI infrastructure, it’s exploiting America’s openness through useful idiots in activist groups, nonprofits, and compliant media to block the very power plants of the AI revolution right here at home. This isn’t paranoia or coincidence. Congressional investigators and detailed reports lay out a coordinated influence operation designed to slow U.S. buildout, let China catch up, and ultimately dominate the technology that will decide the next century of global power. The left’s environmental hysterics and “community concerns” provide perfect cover for foreign adversaries playing the long game against American strength.

The Data Center Choke Point China Wants to Exploit

Modern AI runs on massive data centers that demand enormous electricity, land, and cooling. America leads with thousands of these facilities, but expansion faces fierce resistance in many statesβ€”protests, lawsuits, moratorium pushes, and local NIMBYism over energy costs, water use, and noise. These delays cost billions in stalled projects and hand China breathing room. While the U.S. debates permits and virtue-signals, Beijing subsidizes its own data centers up to 50 percent on energy costs and races to deploy massive compute capacity under its military-civil fusion strategy. The asymmetry screams strategy: tie down the competitor while sprinting ahead yourself.

The Influence Network Exposed

Chinese state media outlets like CGTN, China Daily, and Global Times hammer U.S. data centers as environmental disasters and economic threats, pushing narratives about grid strain and utility bills. At the same time, they cheer China’s own buildout. This lines up perfectly with domestic U.S. campaigns from activist networks and nonprofits. A key player is the funding web tied to Neville Roy Singham, a Shanghai-based American expatriate with documented ties to CCP-aligned causes. His hundreds of millions funneled into groups like Code Pink and related outfits have fueled opposition to AI infrastructure, often echoing Beijing’s talking points on energy, export controls, and Big Tech.

House committees, including Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means, are investigating these flows, with lawmakers warning that Chinese money is organizing protests and shaping public opinion to sow discord. Bot-driven social media amplification, dark money, and collaborations between foreign propaganda and U.S.-based radicals amplify the noise. Environmental groups, some with long histories of aligning against American energy dominance, provide the grassroots theater while the real beneficiaries sit in Beijing.

America’s Openness: The Vulnerability China Loves

Yes, China is ruthlessly taking advantage of U.S. openness. Free speech, nonprofit ecosystems, activist culture, and media that instinctively distrusts big tech or traditional energy make the perfect petri dish for influence ops. Beijing doesn’t need to build its own protestersβ€”they recruit Americans happy to chant against “dirty data centers” while ignoring China’s coal plants and authoritarian control over their own AI. This hybrid warfareβ€”information, funding, proxiesβ€”lets China fight the AI race on asymmetric terms: subsidize at home, sabotage abroad.

The evidence from investigations and reports shows coordination, not organic coincidence. Local concerns about power and land use are real in some spots, but the national-scale hysteria, timing, and messaging alignment with CCP goals point to exploitation. America First recognizes this as economic and strategic warfare. Unchecked, it risks ceding compute supremacy, with all the military, economic, and intelligence implications that follow.

Time to Shut Down the Sabotage and Build

Trump’s administration and congressional Republicans are right to probe these networks, demand transparency on foreign funding, and fast-track permitting for critical infrastructure. Real environmental stewardship means abundant clean energy from American sources, not blocking the future to appease radicals. America’s edge in AI depends on data centers, power generation, and the will to outpace adversaries who don’t pretend to play fair.

China’s playbook exposes the danger of internal division. Useful idiots and useful narratives weaken the country from within while the CCP builds without apology. The solution is straightforward: secure the home front, expose the foreign influence, deregulate American energy and tech dominance, and refuse to let activists or Beijing dictate our technological destiny. America built the modern world. We won’t surrender the AI age to communist schemers and their domestic enablers. The race is on, and it’s time to stop handicapping ourselves.
