Can the Presidential autopen issue pardons? Asking for a friend…

This is too bizarre to be true.

Except that it is.

At least six of the pardons issued by President Joe Biden in the last days of his failed Administration were signed by the Presidential autopen.

I’ve actually used an autopen — although not the Presidential autopen.

You just slide whatever you want signed onto the plate, step on the pedal and the machine does the rest.

It works great.  And for things like letters to constituents it’s a big timesaver for someone as busy as the President of the United States.

But for signing legislation, treaties and such the autopen should be a no-go.

But here we are.

There is proof that the autopen was used to sign pardons.  Are they still legal?

Joe Biden was quite possibly the laziest man ever to occupy the Oval Office.

But signing pardons by autopen while out of town is even beyond Biden.

And wait.  There are even more benefits to be had…

I imagine this will all be litigated.  But just because he might have wanted to do it anyway, there is still legality to follow.

And I can see no way that this can be legal.
