A legitimate question in politics today is whether the Democrat Party will survive or go the way of the Whig Party. It’s hard to see how Democrats can remain relevant by continuing to feign outrage in support of things that 80 percent of voters reject. Whether it’s championing men in women’s sports, fighting against voter ID, protecting illegal-immigrant criminals, or opposing efforts to reduce waste and fraud in government programs, Democrats seem hell bent on destroying themselves.
The irony is that because of the Dems’ accelerating demise, Republican overconfidence is now a genuine danger to America’s survival. Overconfidence breeds complacency, a state of mind Republicans can ill afford, because no matter how crazy Democrats talk and act, no matter how many unpopular issues they support, they have one powerful asset that can overcome just about any obstacle: relentlessness. Plain and simple, Democrats never quit. Never!
Who would have believed that 20 years after Ronald Reagan left office, a punk community organizer with zero lifetime accomplishments would win the presidency and arrogantly proclaim he was going to fundamentally change America? I remember wondering at the time how any halfway informed, halfway serious, halfway sane person could vote for Barack Obama, or any other Democrat, for that matter. The answer to that question is to be found in a quote from Will Durant, who, playing off the famous words of Abraham Lincoln, observed, “It may be true … that you can’t fool all the people all the time, but you can fool enough of them to rule a large country.”
World history has conclusively validated Durant’s observation, because time and again people have elected scoundrels as their leaders. Fortunately, in today’s high-tech world, scoundrels are being exposed by social media, podcasts, and other modern forms of electronic communication. As a result, Democrats, to their dismay, are no longer able to control the flow of information, which makes them evermore angry, and that in turn increases their appetite for violence.
Democrats are so angry and so desperate that they now openly threaten violence, including the assassinations of Donald Trump and Elon Musk. In the past, they have resorted to violence only as a last resort, but they now celebrate violence as righteous activism in furtherance of their quest for power. Car bombings, doxxing, and polls that show a majority of Democrats believe that assassinating Donald Trump is justifiable make it clear that they have no intention of remaining out of power. Their battle cry is “whatever it takes” — and they mean it!
What we are experiencing is Democrat barbarism on the march. The rot in the Democrat Party is so deep that it demands violence against anyone who stands in its way, be it the president of the United States, the richest man in the world (whose greatest sin is helping millions of people live better and longer lives), or the CEO of a health insurance company who wasn’t even involved in politics. (In the latter case, as tends to be true with Middle East terrorists, a privileged kid from Baltimore became an instant folk hero for murdering a perceived enemy whom he had never even met.)
For Republicans to combat Democrat barbarism, it is imperative that they resist the temptation to ease up. Remember, Democrats never quit. In fact, they never even slow down. Today they are razor focused on the 2026 midterms, and are well aware that Republicans are adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. At the moment, Republicans are in the driver’s seat because Donald Trump is in the White House, but no matter how much we would prefer not to think about it, one bullet could instantly change that and throw the GOP into a state of chaos and civil war.
Looked at from that perspective, the biggest threat to Donald Trump and his agenda is not China, not rogue judges, not even the odious RINOs who try to undermine him. The biggest threat to Trump and his agenda is his potential assassination. J.D. Vance is smart and well-spoken, but does he have the experience, the mental toughness, and the Trump influence to be able to step into Donald Trump’s shoes? And, heaven forbid, if Vance also gets taken out, wimpy Mike Johnson would become president of the United States. Think about that for a second: President Mike Johnson! If such a nightmare scenario plays out, you can be certain that the MAGA revolution will come to an abrupt end.
Perhaps the late P.J. O’Rourke best summed up the psychosis of Democrats when he said, “At the core of liberalism is the spoiled child — miserable, as all spoiled children are, unsatisfied, demanding, ill-disciplined, despotic, and useless. Liberalism is a philosophy of sniveling brats.” I agree with O’Roarke’s assessment, but I would add that those sniveling brats are now members of the most dangerous terrorist organization in American history, the Democrat Party. It’s far more dangerous than Tren de Aragua or MS-13, because, unlike those infamous terrorist groups, Democrats have made it clear that their goal is to destroy America and all of Western civilization.
If Republicans don’t take the Democrats’ terrorism seriously and avoid complacency, they will eventually yield power to them, and rest assured that those sniveling brats will not hesitate to bring back the guillotine. I know it’s not a popular thing to say, but there are times when you have to forego the rule of law in deference to civilizational survival, and that time is near at hand. Republicans should do everything possible to help facilitate an end to the Democrat Party and encourage the establishment of a rational, pro-American, liberal opposition party.
